Firefox refuses to remember saved settings or passwords

more options

I have an account on a website I visit near-daily. Despite having both cookies for this website persist and the password supposedly saved, the last three times I've visited the website I've been logged out and the password is nowhere to be found. Having to switch between my password manager and browser is annoying beyond description.

(That's actually not true. I have quite a few choice descriptors for this program, but have chosen to omit them)

Thank you for not using that language to describe the problem. I can totally relate to your rage being created by this very annoying problem.

Can you tell us what site is hitting this issue? And is it only that site or has the problem spread to other sites? I'm trying to detect any kind of pattern at all to explain this madness. I'm even considering one of your addons as the culprit. Would you mind, as a test, disabling all your addons, restarting Firefox, logging in to that site & testing to see if you stay logged in and the password saved?

Good evening,

I followed your outlined steps and the issue was not resolved.

Thank you for ruling out addons as the cause. It honestly sounds like the option to Clear cookies and site data when you close Firefox is enabled. Can you check to make sure that isn't selected?

It's located here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-browsing-search-download-history-firefox#w_how-do-i-make-firefox-clear-my-history-automatically

If it's not selected then this has to be a new bug. I'll let the developers know about this issue. Just know if they come to this thread to help, they will ask you questions like: What site is this happening on? Is the problem occurring on other sites as well? Are all the saved password being deleted? Or is only that single password being deleted? So please do answer those questions.

The more detail you provide, the faster it helps everyone try to solve your problem. Thanks.

I looked, and the box is unchecked. However, I have my enhanced tracking protection set to strict, could that be causing the issue? I'm currently checking if it happens on other websites.

There's a chance the Strict option of Enhanced Tracking Protection could do that. Try setting it to Standard for now and retest your website. I'm really hoping that gets your website working again.

I also just discovered one of your older questions from mid-September: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1463374

I'm sorry you didn't get a response back then as the forums were swamped with a lot of noise unrelated to Firefox and had to deal with bad actors/spammers spamming the site with fake questions.

Just wanted to say that post of yours is super helpful and I'm going to pass that information up to the Firefox developers. You gave some very specific details and it has to be taken seriously. Random deletion of saved passwords should not be happening for any reason. Except if you delete it personally.

I'm going to guess the forgotten login from the other question is the same one in this question. And that you can't mention the site because it's a private site you use for federal government work. I say this because I just realized what your username is. I didn't realize at the time because it was very late at night for me.

That site is strictly something I visit on a personal basis, for whatever that’s worth. However I’ve noticed the failure to stay signed in on both my work and personal email accounts, which are handled through Microsoft, so it’s not just that one website.
