I just downloaded foxfire and it is running slower then IE. how can I make it run faster? Even my typing is going slow...This sucks.

I took firfox on the promise of faster speeds than IE... but everything is massively slower in firefox. Things I have regularly done in IE in one hour, now I spend two hrs 30 mins... and I'm only a third of the way through. This simply won't work. Any suggestions?
