I tried repeatedly to install BBC iplayer on linux ubuntu 10.04 using FF but it always failed. Then I installed it thru opera and it works fine thru opera. However on FF when I try to download a program it sends me to the install page where it either hangs or eventually gives me the install button and then hangs. I can stream programs fine but its impossible to download thru FF. Adobe AIR & the iplayer are in /opt

Your plugin list shows two Flash plugins:

  1. Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45
  2. Shockwave Flash 10.1 r85

You should remove the older 10.0 r45 version.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_plugins#Identifying_installed_plugins

You can see the installed plugins on the about:plugins page.
If you set the pref plugin.expose_full_path to true on the about:config page then you see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.
It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.
