firefox 4.01 and sound problem
The following code would link to an mp3 file in the same directory, and a webserver (Apache Tomcat) would play the mp3 file as a background.
Firefox 4.0.1 does not generate any error, but simply will not play the file (all I get is silence!)
Oddly enough, this same code played the sound when expected, on Firefox 3.6, also with the Windows Media Player for Firefox plugin installed (this being the multibrowser approach that I have found works generically:
<embed src='river.mp3' autoStart='true' loop='true' width='0' height='0' type='audio/mpeg'/>
Please help!

It might not be a coding problem. I have a similar problem on an iMac. I have a site with two embedded mp3 files. At some point, I could no longer hear them. I cannot be sure it was when I upgraded to FF 4.0. (They play fine in Safari.) I have gone through the whole plug-ins troubleshooting routine; nothing worked. I have duplicated a friend's "combo" -- OS 10.6.7, FF 4.0.1, and the same plug-ins enabled. He can hear the sound; I can't. Based on Mozilla information, I assume it is the QuickTime plug-in that should be playing the files. I have the latest version AND I tested it at the Adobe and Apple websites and there appears to be no problem.
I have this exact problem. Any sound that is put in with <embed SRC="..."> whether mp3, wav, or other does not work. I created a big family website (on CD) with a lot of sounds and told everyone to use Firefox with it. Now Firefox 4.0 won't play the sounds. It works fine in Firefox 3.6 and Internet Explorer. Please fix this as it is a major problem for some of us.
