I did a screen capture to show you, but am not able to link a JPG. I'll try to describe. If, for example, I click on TOOLS, all I see are 4 of the shortcuts. The rest of the drop-down menu is blank. No text, just 4 shortcuts. Under VIEW, I can only see "full screen." This is true of all the tabs in the menu bar. Additionally, I had to write this in Google Chrome. When I tried to send a question in Firefox, the box to enter the text is very short (vertically) and I am not able to get the cursor in it to type text. I've tried changing the default font and completely uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, twice. Turned off plug-ins, also. Any ideas?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

It does the same thing in Safe mode. Firefix works on my laptop with WinXP. So it has to be a setting or conflicting addins or plug ins.

Can you add that screenshot to your next post (you can't attach a screenshot to the first post)?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
