Even though I selected the option to have the previous tabs/websites saved, whenever I close and re-open Firefox, only one tab with the home page opens - why doesn't it remember the tabs/websites previously open??

Chosen solution
Firefox now automatically saves open tabs when closing. When you re-start Firefox, do one of these:
- Restore from History:
- click Firefox button> History > Restore Previous Session
- click History > Restore Previous Session, if using the Menu Bar
- Restore from the about:home page:
- type about:home in the Location/URL bar and choose "Restore Previous Session"
- See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-updating-firefox#w_why-werent-my-tabs-and-windows-restored
- Change your home page setting:
- Change Options > General tab, change "When Firefox starts:" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
- See Options window-General Options
IMPORTANT:
- You must close Firefox using Firefox button > Exit/Close (or File > Exit/Close if using the Menu Bar) for this to work properly DO NOT use the Close ("X") button in the upper right corner of the window.
- You must have "Remember my browsing history" selected; click Firrefox button > Options > Privacy (or Tools > Options > Privacy, if using the Menu Bar)
- You must not clear "Browsing History" when closing Firefox; click Firefox button > Options > Privacy > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Exceptions > [ ] Browsing History (un-checked) (or click Tools > Options > Privacy > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Exceptions > [ ] Browsing History (un-checked), if using the Menu Bar)
- You must not be using Private Browsing or start Firefox in permanent Private Browsing
- See Private Browsing
- Options > Privacy > [ ] Permanent Private Browsing Mode (un-checked)

On the Firefox start page, there's usually a big button that says "Restore Previous Session". Click that and your tabs and windows will be restored.
