I have Firefox 11. Many times I have been asked to update to 11.4 and I did this but every time I am left with a Firefox window on desktop indicating 2 items, zero KB available and dmg folder. I dragged Icon to Application Folder and from App Folder to Icons bar on desktop. Whenever I open my laptop next time and open Firefox these two items appear on desktop and a bit later on I get another drop down window asking me to update to 11.4 as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your help. I now have Firefox 10.0.2 and it works without any distraction but an window appears on desktop prompting me to drag Firefox icon to Application Folder. I have already done that and drag icon from Application to Home, I close this window and get it out of my sight, a little bother.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
