This morning I was running Firefox 12, and closed and opened it several times and my tabs were still there each time.

This afternoon, I opened it and my tabs and history had disappeared, and the only history I have is what I have opened this afternoon.

In the process of attempting to fix this, Firefox did the automatic update to 13, if that causes any problems.

So, how do I get my history back?

There is no backup for the history, so if the history is gone then it is lost for good. There may be references left to visited sites in the browsing cache. You can open the about:cache page via the location bar if you want to check that.

Also check the Clear Recent History settings to be sure that you aren't clearing data.
