Try creating a new profile and follow the instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles and let me know what happens.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode (Never Remember History).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
