Changes are being Made to my Firefox Preferences - Latest is my list of Blocked Sites got Erased and Now there is no block key

I don't want to add any sites to ALLOW, its already set to do that.

I strongly suspect that Firefox is responsible for my vanished long-collected lists of sites that are a total pain because there is no longer a way to BLOCK SITES.

Sites keep popping up and so I want to add them LIKE I USED TO DO but PRESTO - option is gone.

HOW CONVENIENT that just after somebody deleted my list of undesirable nuisance sites FIREFOX also has changed/hidden any ability to ADD BLOCK SITES

I am really ticked because I have read tech articles that talk about Firefox implementing or already installing updates on their own accord. If I ever get full proof of that me and firefox are gone.

I WANT THE ABILITY TO BLOCK SITES - what difference does it make to Firefox if I block annoying sites unless they are becoming the enemy.

Are you using Blocksite or URL-n-extension Block? The problem with those is that both use one line in prefs.js to hold the entire blocklist. If the line gets too long, it gets chopped off because there is a limit to how long a line in a script can be. I am using the latter extension, but I was careful to keep the list of sites short. I only block sites there where I want to have absolutely no contact at all.

For the rest of the annoyances, I use Adblock Plus with 4 subscriptions:
  • EasyList
  • EasyPrivacy
  • Fanboy's Annoyance List
  • Malware Domains

Sorry I am not sure I fully understand what you are asking for an explanation of.

Generaly it is good practice to keep software up to date and often software does update automatically. Updates will often have security fixes. You may override Firefox's default setting to update, but it is not wise.

Could you please briefly explain what you are doing here ? How are you generating this list & where do you keep it ? How is this listing used ?

Note Firefox accesses and makes use of a blocklist that it uses to update a locally stored blocklist. This is mainly addons that have proved dangerous for some reason. Currently there have been series of flashplayer issues and fixes, with exploits in the wild and so some Versions of Flashplayer are on this listing.

I blocked lots of things that became obvious they were slowing down my computer - cant tell you what they were since they're gone. On the security tab of mozilla preferences right now there is a way to ALLOW sites - right there it used to be there was also one for BLOCK SITES and its gone. I can't find a way to enter the sites I want to block and say block them. I can say ALLOW THEM but I don't want to allow the. If you are going to have one for allow then it makes sense you would also have a selection to BLOCK.

I don't know how to make a screen copy because when I'm looking at the cookies stored on my computer then I don't have access to any of my screen savers but there is a WHOLE TON OF CRAP ON THERE that I never used to have because whenever these start showing up regularly I could type them in and select BLOCK. Why cant I do that anymore ---- its obvious from the names there are selling crap - nothing I want anything to do with just crap that's slowing down loading sites I go to. I would love to show you the list of these annoying intrusive nusances but conveniently enough I can't do a screen capture while looking at the list of crappy cookies that is forever showing up. Many of them are repeat performers I blocked before and now, like our southern borders, my system is wide open AND BEING TRASHED.

I realize that many are from places I visit - these I know nothing about but clearly they are ad crap

ALL kinds of doubleclick crap ----- DOUBLECLICK is evil - if you block it comes bad with a deviation some log.optimizely ( a bunch of those with different numbers added to the name so it might be 4923.log.optimizely garbage. goember ascorecardresearch ad.360yield.com ad.advertising.com adminlegend.com addthis.com adtoany.com adelement adexcite adform adlegend admaym ad.creativeserving.com adsflingotv adsnexage adspointrel adspubmatic ads.stickyad.sty.com adsundertone adsnative areyouahuman backpagebango au.f]oqw]qfm]qpfjqp]fmwmf]qpjf]ptelemetry.verification au.ljfjeofqfm]qpjefmfqepojpqefpjverification.nt drunadtag DOUBLECLICK engadget fatsecret godaddy gumgum hugsitescoutadserver.com ingetclicky interclick.com

AND 10MILLION MORE like this that I used to be able to just BLOCK

I will detete these and tomorrow they will be back so if I could BLOCK THEM that would be nice and I used to be able to

All I figure is these are trolling for sales of something and it must be that firefox sold us out allowing them on here and taking away the means to block them.

ok so it appears there are several different subjects here.

You probably have been using some form of addblocker or or scriptblocker Fred gave a couple of examples, and others will be available see this search

We do not know what you have installed already and wheter any of these may have been changed or uninstalled recently.

If you are getting lots of ads you may have somesort of adware, ortoolbar installed.

The Windows snipping tool creates screenshots suitable for attaching to these posts.
