Folder pane question tied to folders I've created, vs. the default inbox, sent, junk, and trash

I have a slew of folders & sub-folders I've created for different projects, but I don't want to always see them. (i.e., I would like to "collapse" them, so that for the bulk of the time -- I just see the inbox, sent, junk, and trash folders.

The only option I see is the equivalent of an on/off switch -- i.e., View/Layout/Folder Pane, or no Folder Pane.

If you uncheck the folder pane, you loose the inbox, sent, junk, and trash folders.

If you check the folder pane option, you gain back your visibility of the inbox, sent, junk, and trash folders ... but you also see the slew of folders again.

Is there an in-between option -- where I can (still) see the inbox, sent, junk, and trash folders -- but only see a collapsed (as in 1 folder that says something like "folders") --- without having to manually create such a folder and stick the slew of my other folders in the created folder?

Chosen solution

The only suggestion that I would have it to select the account name, not the Inbox but the main account name. Then right click the account name and select New Folder. Name it Projects or anything that makes sense to you. Now right click Projects and select New Subfolder. Name that subfolder. Repeat as needed. There will be a pointer beside the Projects folder where you can expand or collapse the Projects folder tree. This will only add one additional folder, Projects, when the Projects tree is collapsed.
