My problem is this: after FF43, I get NO suggestions in URL bar. Yes, all three boxes are checked in the Privacy Location Bar page. I refreshed FF, still nothing. If I create a new profile, it works (with all settings seemingly the same). I have changed all of the Browser.URLbar.Suggest keys to default. Any help?

First, and mainly: thank you, cor-el!

I am quite perplexed over all of this. Everything worked fine until the FF43 update. First thing I thought was to verify the places.sqlite file integrity. No search found anything. I ran the places-maintenance addon you suggested last night -- I aborted it after three hours of no response, figuring it was hosed so badly a maintenance program even crashed. Today I surprisingly find that the problem is fixed! Ran the maintenance program again and it immediately tells me all is okay. So I guess even though it crashed it did some repair. It did, however, delete my entire history and all website icons (without informing or asking first). Not crazy about that, but will accept the pain with the fix.

When I guessed (correctly, it turns out) that there was a problem with places.sqlite I thought that the FF "refresh" created a new profile and exported/imported "some" of the old data from the old to the new profile. But it must not do that, because it still did not work after the refresh.

I was close to abandoning FF after many years and migrating to Chrome. FF will not work on my Android tablet, the desktop version routinely crashes on Yahoo, and this above problem was close to the last straw. The maintenance program really should not be an add-on, it really needs to be integrated within FF itself. Plus no suggestions I found even mentioned its existence.

So thanks again cor-el, FF lives another day for me!

P.S.: it is an arduous task to discover how to post questions here. Finding the place to create a Forum account is very hard (plus it says no account is needed -- but it is!). [ end of gripe (:>) ]

You're welcome.

Note that Firefox 44 has been released today.
