Now the title bar is a nice shade of blue. When did that happen?

In Windows 10, title bars seemed to have gone away, and it's not easy to pick out one window from another. But now in Tbird 45.0, there's a nice light blue band at the top of the window, which makes it easier to pick out that window on a screen full of other open programs. Also helps make Tbird tabs stand out, so the open tab is not blue while any others are. Is this something new in version 45.0, or did something else happen on my system around that time? I see no options for setting that color in Tbird. Also, it's not an actual title bar, in that there's no title in it. It's just a band of color at the top of the Tbird window. I'm wondering where or when this came from, but I do like it. Wish I could set the color in Firefox, too.

The only thing I can locate is a recent change to use a flat background instead of gradient for the navigation toolbar on Windows 10 and 8]. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1222805

So this might have adopted the basic theme on the background.

re: Title Bar the title bar is now auto disabled probably to help with saving space on smaller screens.

You can enable the Title Bar if you want: 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab OR 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab

  • click on 'Config Editor' button
  • in search type: titlebar
  • look for this line :mail.tabs.drawInTitlebar; Value says 'True'.
  • Double click on that line to toggle the 'True' to a False
  • close window - top right X
  • click on OK

Well there it is, a real title bar, thanks for pointing out that option. It's not in a distinctive color, somehow Windows 10 got away from the bright title bars of early Windows. There's still the question of the light blue band behind the tabs in Tbird (under the title bar) - that's something new to me, and I'm wondering if it came in with ver 45.

Thanks for the tip, I don't normally browse through those options, so didn't know it was there.

Excuse me, but I realize that when I said the title bar is now a nice shade of blue, I was actually referring simply to the background of the tabs, which didn't use to be blue. When I then added the title bar, it appears above the tabs and their blue background, I do like the blue though.

How does one get rid of the blue title bar, and replace it with gray like Thunderbird 38? The blue sucks.

scottsan: You can change how Thunderbird looks using a couple of different methods.

1. change the windows appearance on your computer. this is a useful section as it can help people with eyesight issues relating to colour or contrast requirements. On windows Vista it is here: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Personalization > Window Colour and Appearance. This location might vary depending upon OS and is not really a Thunderbird query, but more of you getting to understand what your computer offers and how to use it.

I have just changed the colour scheme settings within my computer Personalization section just to show you how it can effect Thunderbird window. The three images below show the difference between Windows Vista Basic, Windows Aero and Windows Classic. But there is also an 'advanced' section which allows me to change individual bits such as 'Active title bar'. See images below.

2. download and use a different theme for Thunderbird. 'Tools' > 'Addons' or 'Menu icon' > 'Addons'

select the 'Get Addons' icon in left pane. In the search Type: thunderbird themes and click on search icon or press enter to get a list.
