When I click to sign out from my Microsoft Outlook E-mail page, it processes it but after some seconds, it stays at the same page (not signing out). Only when I click for the second or third time, it would actually sign out. I contacted Microsoft regarding this issue and I was told to try signing out using a browser other than Firefox to see if it is related to the browser. The problem did not occur when I tried signing out a using a browser other than Firefox suggesting that the problem is indeed related to Firefox browser. Microsoft then advised me to contact Mozilla to solve this issue.

I need assistance need to solve this problem.

Another user reported a similar problem of not being logged out of Outlook.com. When I view the huge stream of activity in the Browser Console caused by clicking Sign out (screen shot attached), it is clear that a lot of servers are involved on Microsoft's end. It's possible that a setting or add-on in your Firefox, or an external factor such as security software, is blocking something in that long chain.

Since redirects are involved, could you check that Firefox isn't set to block them? If you turned on the optional redirect block, that can cause failures on some sites without any notification. Please check that here:

Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences

In the left column, click Advanced. On the right side, with the "General" mini-tab active, uncheck the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" if it is checked.

(This is an accessibility feature intended for users of screen reading software and not a general-purpose tool of value to most users.)

Note about the Browser Console: You can display it using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+j
  • "3-bar" menu button > Developer > Browser Console

There is a trash can in the upper left corner to clear accumulated messages. On OWA, they keep showing up as ads display, etc. I had to keep clearing and wait for a calm moment before switching over to the main window and clicking Sign out.

Often when a page loads, you see a lot of little blue triangles in the left column. Those are CSS warnings. You can click the small triangle on the CSS button at the top and uncheck Warnings to hide those. Style warnings are more relevant to layout or missing element problems, and rarely cause functional issues.
