Have my current inbox and sent messages (a University system gmail account) in a new installation of Thunderbird and don't want to mess with any of that. I need to copy all my local folders to the new Thunderbird installation on the new computer.

Chosen solution

I suggest you using the import export tools add-on to export the mail to mbox files and them import them on the other device.
