So I've noticed a few weeks ago Firefox started acting weird...

I honestly don't quite know how to explain it. Often, websites (such as Twitter) just won't load. The status bar will stay at "Waiting for www.twitter.com" or whatever. If I open up Chrome, and go to Twitter it works just fine.

I've "Refreshed" firefox a dozen times, even deleted everything mozilla related so when I install firefox it didn't do any of the "restore blah blah" things. It worked for a while, then it started doing it again.

So I started using a minimal amount of add-ons... like... 2.. now.. and it still does it... I often "restart with add-ons disabled" and it works fine... but last time... I accidentally selected the option to "restart with add-ons disabled" but didn't click on the "Start in safe mode" option, I just started it normally... and ... it worked...

So.. I did this.. basically... > Oh Dear. Firefox is soooooooooooo slow. Time to "Fix" it again.

> Help > Troubleshooting information > Restart with add-ons disabled (firefox closes)

> (firefox popup) [Start In Safe-mode] [Refresh] [Exit] > I pick [Exit]

> (start firefox normally)

> Oh Look. Firefox works fine now.

What's the problem? It's not my add-ons, it's not my internet, and firefox works fine once I fake the safe-mode thing...

Hi, interesting. But faking it is always bad. What Security Software are you running please ? Please see inside :

So Safe Mode and Diagnose Extensions no Hardware Acceleration does not help in coming to sort of conclusion here, it works or doesn't ?

SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Performance > Uncheck to view)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?

please try a Refresh but Note that this does more than uninstalling and re-installing does. Normal uninstalling does not remove some preferences which may have become corrupt. Please Refresh but do this 1st: Delete your Cookies and Cache and TEST.

then

TEST....... If no issues then Extensions which need to be added back in 1 at a time and tested ..... Or it is your Profile : Make a new one and test ...:

If is your Profile :

Note: Any customization will revert back to default, you will also need to reinstall Extensions.

I kind of think what you're doing might be the same as using Exit and then starting Firefox again. The good news is, all the memory used by tabs during your session is freed, and if you restore your previous session, only the active tab in each window is reloaded. So you are getting rid of a lot of accumulated junk and if that is necessary on a regular basis, it could indicate that Firefox is not using memory efficiently, or that Windows isn't being very generous with memory for one reason or another.

By the way, it's probably better to use only Adblock Plus OR uBlock Origin, and not both at once.

I use Kaspersky Total Security & iObit Advanced System Care. Windows Firewall too but I think Kaspersky has control over that.

The issue doesn't really seem to happen in safe mode.

This I had done a while back. Everything worked fine then all of a sudden poof. It started happening again. I hadn't updated or added extensions in two weeks.

I'm starting to wonder if some files just keep getting corrupted or something.

Hi, no all roads lead to Kaspersky :

Above was the last time (2mos ago) it blocked Firefox or parts of sites.

The appropriate boxes are already checked. I did notice something odd though. Firefox is still waiting for twitter and facebook to load, but this page and the firefox addons catalog (?) loaded right away...

It's your other Extensions : uBlock Origin Adblock Plus which should change out as it does same as uBlock and lists are the same use Ghostery instead : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ghostery/
