I have not been able to successfully add a ProtonMail account to Thunderbird. I followed the ProtonMail instructions for how to configure Thunderbird, but when I tested the connection, Thunderbird failed to connect to the ProtonMail server. I used 127.0.0.1 as the servername and doublechecked my protonmail username and password, which were both correct. Can anyone help me with this issue?

Have you installed the proton mail bridge software? Most people coming here with problems have not installed it and restarted their computer. The bridge is required. as it is the "server" Thunderbird talks to.

I downloaded the Proton Mail Bridge prior to configuring Thunderbird, but whenever I try to retrieve my Proton Mail from Thunderbird, I get a login failure message. I have checked my Proton Mail password multiple times as well as other Thunderbird settings, but I still get a login failure message when I try to retrieve my Proton Mail via Thunderbird. Is there any place I can go to get a step-by-step configuration guide for setting up a Proton Mail Account within the latest version of Thunderbird under Windows 10?

I guess you could ask the protonmail folks how to do it. But I would think they feel this is adequate. https://protonmail.com/bridge/thunderbird

The bridge does use the IP address 127.0.0.1 which is a loopback address, sort of a pseudo way of saying "on my computer" except some anti virus products block that address in their firewall component as it has been used by malware in the past. So you might want to check that.
