SMS messaging
Using my email to send messages to cell phones is fairly straightforward put there is a limit of 160 characters, if I exceed the limit the received message will be cut off at 160 characters. Is there a way to get a character count as I am writing the message so I do not exceed this limit? It would be of great value. Thank you for your help. George

I agree, but TB will never be everything we want, and the website does work. But you could create a template and mark the 160th position and click the Insert key to allow overtyping and write the message that way. I am not aware of a plugin for that. Good luck.

use the free website at wordcounter dot net and copy/paste into tb.
Yes this solves the problem put it is a very clumsy way of doing it. First you need to open up character counting program external to Thunderbird then copy then paste into Thunderbird. Yes this works but it is not a very efficient way of doing it. Ideally it would be good to count characters within Thunderbird while you are typing your message. I ques I am looking for a plug in. Thanks for your replay if nothing else comes along your suggestion is a solution. George

Thank you David, TB like all good programs evolve with time. Perhaps someone will develop a plug in for character counting. I will play around with your idea about inserting a pointer in a template. Thank you much for your effort. George
