Can Firefox be set so that it can be opened only with a password?
I thought establishing a master password would do this but it does not. I want to protect saved information, i. e. tax returns.
Chosen solution
Profile Password extension - but it is easily by-passed by opening the Firefox SafeMode.

Your first line of defense against inquisitive eyes is the Logon User Account feature in WinXP. Not all stored data that is created or saved thru Firefox is actually saved in Firefox, but rather in your "user data" in Windows.

Hi the ed-meister,
Thanks. You pointed me in the right direction. I accessed my account log-in feature via control panel and solved the problem.
