See if the following instructions/information works for you.

There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:

  • an ActiveX version for IE only
  • a Plugin version for most other browsers including Firefox
  • On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.

You do not appear to have the Plugin version for Firefox installed. If you did, in Add-ons > Plugins you would see "Shockwave Flash (version)".

Install or update Adobe Flash

  1. Using Firefox, go to the following direct download link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
  2. When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit OR Firefox button > Exit)
  3. Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
    • In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
    • The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    • The installation is quick.
  4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
  5. Direct link ActiveX version for IE only: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

Manual install as suggested worked.

The original problem occurred when trying to install after a "Click here to install plugin". The error message was something like "Installation failed, install manually".

Thanks for the help.

It is best to always install from the source; in this case from the Adobe site. Malware could infect a site and masquerade as a legitimate program.

I had the same problem. I went thru the Mozilla website, to the Adobe check enable-disabled web page. What was happening was Adobe was installed but disabled !!! The Adobe Page then enables it for you.

I had installed another browser, I believe it disabled it.

Repeat make sure Adobe Flash Player is ENABLED, by checking the Adobe Web Site.

I had to go into the add-on page in FF and disable the existing Adobe plug-in. I had tried to wipe adobe from my system before that (as suggested by their site) but the plug-in had remained. After that, I had FF search for updates to my plugins, and it recommended I install a newer version of the Adobe plug-in, and that installation was successful. Auto and manual install, to that point, had continuously failed. It appears my problem was the existing plug-in preventing it from working.
