Firefox flashed on my screen this morning telling me to download their new version because the version I have is not able to support security, etc. I attempted to but a new screen said I should download the newest version Firefox has that my Mac OS X V10.4 can handle. My Mac computer was purchased in 2005. A few months ago I went to Apple to get an upgrade to make it a 10.5 or 10.9, but they said my Mac didn't have intel inside so I could not upgrade it. Is my computer now not usable and safe? I would like to download the Firefox version that my Mac can support. Under details below, I do not have a clue what all of those "plug-ins" mean or what I should do.

Chosen solution

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor; your system is a PPC Mac.

The good news is that Firefox 3.6.24 (which you have installed) still supports the PPC Mac architecture. The bad news is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

You can try the third-party product TenFourFox that supports PPC Macs. The product is based on Firefox released versions. All support is provided by the developer, not by this site:

Hi Thanks for your help, I downloaded everything you stated and checked and downloaded plug-ins needing updating. Hope it all works, my Firefox has been slow and unable to use a lot of video websites recently. Because I am not so confident in my usage of computer, I am hesitant to use the Safebrowser website that is a third party and not part of Firefox, but I really cannot afford to get a new computer at the end of the first quarter of 2012. Does Firefox stand by the security and safety of Safebrowser? Thanks again.

I'm talking about the TenFourFox website, I am always nervous going to places not owned by website I have used for years. Has anyone else used them for their Tiger Mac OS X V10.4, PPC Mac?
