I have firefox 14 and windows 7. firefox is pinned to taskbar. When I click on the firefox icon in taskbar, I want it to open in a separate window and not show preview.

It sounds like you want to customize the way the Windows 7 task bar displays applications and previews. This tutorial walks you through the details: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Change-how-buttons-appear-on-the-taskbar

Yes. Thank you. Tutorial solves half the problem. The firefox icon no longer shows previews but I am still unable to open a new window by clicking on it. I would like the icon to open a separate window every time I click on it. Instead, it opens only 1 window. Please help. Thank you.
