Why won't Firefox shut down, even though all of its relevant processes are absent from Task Manager?

My install of Firefox asked me to reset the other night, but it was interrupted partway through the resetting ritual. Now I can't open FIrefox at all because it thinks it is already running, even though the firefox.exe process is nowhere to be found on the processes list in Task Manager. I have shut down and restarted my computer multiple times since, but this has not corrected the problem.

I am forced to post this question from an alternate browser because Firefox does not run correctly at all.

Hi RaymondS

try to delete the Profiles.ini file in Profile folder .

[If you delete the profiles.ini file, a new default profile will be created the next time you start the application and a new profiles.ini file will be generated that references the new profile]

The "Old Firefox Data" in your desktop is your old Firefox profile information. If the reset didn't fix your problem you can restore some of the information not saved by copying files to the new profile that was created.

Additionally you can also try creating a new profile. You can also try firefox.exe -p -no-remote in the Run (Windows key + R) box. If you're able to start Firefox in the new profile you can copy/overwrite personal data from the desktop folder into the current profile folder after exiting Firefox. To open the current profile folder via Firefox: Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder.
