Why do you include spyware Delta Search in your download?

I download Firefox and discovered a spyware/virus had been included in your software. It took me days to find out how to remove it from all Firefox and all the other browsers it infected along with uninstalling the software. Why would you include a spyware/virus with your Foxfire software? Are you trying to discourage people from using your software? Seriously.

you must have gotten this adware through another source then - no download from the official firefox site will include such crap...

Download firefox from official mozilla website

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

Hi,

Your telling me how to remove it. I already have it removed after much effort.

What I am asking is why you would include a hijacking spyware/virus called Delta Search which infects our whole computer in your Firefox software download? I will never trust a download from Firefox again if that is the way you do business. There are other browsers that don't try to hijack our computers.

Firefox never comes with that, if you download from www.mozilla.org

you can go through Firefox privacy and policy, if you want

You may be right. So other websites with spyware are able to offer YOUR software without Moxilla's knowledge? I mean a simple search for websites that offer Firefox would bring them up--pretty easy to find them. Also it would make more sense to call your website FireFox.com instead of Moxilla. Afterall it is a Firefox browser we are looking for in our searches. Just saying, thank you,

You should always be careful if you install other software and extensions to make sure that you aren't installing unwanted additions.

Yes, I thought that only Moxilla Firefox controlled their own software. Apparently that is not the case.

if you know of any website which is distributing adware under the disguise of offering a genuine version of firefox please report them at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/fraud-report/index.html - further actions against them will be taken then!

Okay, I just tried to report it and apparently your reporting form is not working. I filled out the report including the website and it asked me "Are you human?" Unfortunately there was no option to respond to that question available on the form. The result was : "Sorry, the reCAPTCHA you entered was incorrect. Please go back and try again." Over and over again. I love to help you do your own website policing but this is ridiculous. How can I report it when your reporting form doesn't work either? Thanks

make sure that you're not using any extensions that might block the captcha or that you've blocked mixed content on the page. normally the form should look like in the screenshot.

Sorry I don't even know what a "captcha" is? I'm not blocking mixed content or using any extensions that I know of that would interfere. I'll tell you what. Here is the website where they are using your software to download the delta search spyware. Why don't you report it? This is getting ridiculous.

ok, i've filled in & submitted the form for you.

it appears as if you have gotten to that sight by clicking on a sponsored google result which redirected you to this adware trap. in the future please be careful & only download software from the original site of a developer in order to avoid such issues.

How do I prevent malware from being installed?

Good advise and thanks. I suggest in the future Moxilla do a google search once in awhile to find these kind of sites that are using their software in an illegal way rather than wait for customers to do it for them.  :0)

They do take it seriously as I myself use to report these sort of sites in Bugzilla and the sites were down in a week or less usually. They usually connected my bug to one bug that has limited access. At point one of the people involved with this matter suggested it may get faster response if I reported at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/fraud-report/index.html

The mozilla-firefox.todownload dot com has details that shows it was not a official download page like for example This site is not directly affiliated with Mozilla Org and Mozilla would never both add in any toolbars and does not have a installer that will have additional software may be offered to you via opt-in or opt-out ads during the installation process.

Also Firefox is not just for Windows as Mozilla offers the desktop version for Mac OSX and Linux and for a long list of different locals as can be seen at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and they also support Android and Firefox OS with mobile version.

Mozilla is the company and Firefox is not their only product or project as to why firefox.com leads to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

All true. I'm afraid I didn't know or notice that information before I tried downloading it. I didn't know Mozilla was the source for the Firefox browser. Its kind of like buying a "Lincoln Mercury Ford" car. Is it a Lincoln or a Mercury or do we just call it a Ford? Add to that the constant mergers and names changes of all companies then customers often don't know the business history of them.

I have had to fix 4 PC's and 1 Laptop this last week after Delta Search was installed using the "OFFICIAL" mozilla release from your own official website. (easy too look at the source of the website where the download was taken from)

Clean up your act Mozilla, or you will quickly find your browser ends up being less trusted that IE
