Right click on the web page itself and select "Bookmark this page." Or, you can add the button to the toolbar with the star and the bookmark button. :-)
If clicking on the bookmark star gives you an option to remove this bookmark then the page is already bookmarked !
Possibly you are bookmarking pages and adding them as unsorted bookmarks, but not clicking the bookmark star a second time to place the bookmark in some chosen location.
See these instructions - complete with video and animated screenshots
In current Firefox releases the "Bookmark This Page" menu entry in the Bookmarks menu changes to "Edit This Bookmark" once you have bookmarked the page and the star on the Navigation Toolbar is highlighted blue.
So do not get confused by the missing "Bookmark This Page" in the Bookmarks menu and seeing "Edit This Bookmark" instead if you try to bookmarks a page that is already bookmarked.
You can make a extra copy of a bookmark by dragging the link to a folder in the bookmarks sidebar (View Bookmarks Sidebar) or by doing a copy and paste in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
Ok. It seems to be a nice feature but you need to watch video how to use it?! How would I know a usual shortcut Ctrl-D has two functions now - bookmark and edit? And also, a bookmark goes to Unsorted, not Bookmark Menu as before. New bookmark is not easy to find! Unsorted do not appear as a regular folder in Bookmarks, but as a button which opens All Bookmark window in Unsorted view. Pew!! What dyslexic designed this?! No wonder Firefox loosing people; it is a browser for geeks only who has time to learn new feature each Firefox release!
If you use the Ctrl + D shortcut or the "Bookmark This Page" item in the Bookmarks menu then the bookmarks is created in the Bookmarks Menu folder. Only if you click the star then the bookmark is created in the unsorted folder. Ctrl+D behaved before like this, but you didn't see the label name change in the menu to Edit This Bookmark. Now both the label name in the Bookmarks menu changes and the tooltip of the highlight star changes.
What is 'label name' ? And how Ctrl-D sorts bookmarks? Ctrl-D must sort bookmarks, or is it the same as star’s Unsorted? If the same why it goes two different places?
Oh, I got it. I can change folder when Ctr-D while Star always sends to Unsorted. Yet you can change folder of already bookmarked page with Star. Additional convenience is that blue Star means that a page is already bookmarked and the bookmarked location folder when click on Star.

If the star is highlighted then Ctrl+D also open the same Edit This Bookmark dialog as you get when you click the highlighted star. The only difference is that you do not get a confirmation dialog when you click the star like you get with Ctrl+D and that the default locations (folders) differ when you bookmark the current tab.
