I used YesScript to stop scripts on a certain website and now Disqus doesn't show up on that website. What do I do?

Every time I go to any Breitbart.com website, my computer slows down so much, I can barely scroll or type a post in Disqus. At least twice I've gotten the "scripts" error message. So I did some research on how to fix the "scripts" problem and I used the YesScript solution. Now when I go to Breitbart.com, the pages run fine, but I can't get the Disqus comment section; it's just gone. So I assume that Disqus on Breitbart was causing the "scripts" problem, but by blocking the scripts, I've blocked the whole purpose of going to the website.

HELP!

As a test, could you try blocking Flash on the site but allowing scripts (undo the script block).

If you don't have it set this way already, first change the permission for Flash from allowing all sites to using it automatically to first asking your approval. Here's how:

Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right, find "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

The next time you visit the site, if there is Flash media, you will get notified. You should see a "Lego-like" notification icon in the address bar and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

Try leaving the Flash blocked to see if the page performs better without it while you allow scripts.

Any change?

What script(s) did it mention in the error message?

Did you previous try Safe Mode?

This was the warning I got:

WARNING: UNRESPONSIVE SCRIPT

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.

I did not try Safe Mode - why would that even work? I'm not all that tech saavy so I'll need layman's terms.  :-D

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
