I have OS X Yosemite on a Macbook Air; how do I get text substitutions to work in Firefox as they do in Safari?

I have a large list of text substitutions that work in essentially app except for Firefox. I need Firefox's speed compared to Safari, but the text substitutions don't work at all. I have tried everything I've found in help forums with no success. Is there a way I can get them to work.

I have a MacBook Air early 2014 with 4gb RAM. OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite, and the latest iteration of Firefox

I am not exactly sure how they work in Safari, however this add on might be helpful:

Guigs2...

Fox Replace doesn't work so far, the substitution list doesn't pop up when I do shift f8, I have to redo the substitutions on every page, so it is not helpful. I made sure the substitutions are enabled etc. but alas, no luck. Thanks anyway for your idea, it sure was promising. Any other suggestions, let me know.
