I am changing email providers and want all the emails from that account stored on my harddrive. Thunderbird should be able to do this, but i can't find a transparent and user friendly way of doing this. How can i download all the emails from to my harddrive?

Copy the messages to your 'Local Folders' account. If you have subfolders on the server copy create the subfolder underneath 'Local Folders' first and then copy the messages. Do one folder at a time. If there are a large number of messages in a folder copy them in batches, not all at once. To copy messages, select the messages to be copied - right-click - Copy To. Start with a single message to verify everything works as expected.
