Sometimes I receive e-mails from unsolicited parties and I don't know how to delete them without opening said e-mails.

Chosen solution

You could right-click it and select delete from the pop-up menu.

Personally I don't worry about the possible risks of opening suspicious messages in Thunderbird. The worst that can happen AFAIK is a webbug reporting back that I opened it. Thunderbird doesn't run scripts and you'd have to click on anything to actually fire it off.
