How can I disable zooming of google maps when I'm scrolling down a page?

I'm using Firefox 46.0.1 in Windows 10 on an HP Spectre x360. The trackpad settings allow you to set the right edge as a scroll wheel. It works just fine everywhere, I slide my finger up and down the right edge and anything that's scrollable scrolls up or down as expected. The only exception is google maps and pages with embedded google maps. I scroll down the page, but as soon as the pointer hovers over the map, the scrolling stops and the map zooms in or out like mad. It's crazy annoying. I can avoid it by making sure I move the pointer over to the side of the page before scrolling, but it's not intuitive to remember this every single time and it of course is of no help on the main google maps site. Is there any way, via add-ons or anything, to disable this feature and keep the scroll wheel just a scroll wheel?

Sorry, I don't know how to overcome that with a trackpad.

But Google Maps did change a few times recently; currently on my desktop PC I need to "click-hold & drag" the map to reposition the map; whereas a few months ago I was able to use the scroll-wheel to move a map up / down. iirc, that feature changed at the same time that "tilt" was added. Or maybe when the Full / Lite Mode toggle was added. https://support.google.com/maps/answer/1610636?hl=en&ref_topic=3093390

Edit: Just a thought - check for updates for the trackpad drivers.

I did some research and the problem is irrespective of trackpad vs. mouse. Google Maps interprets any scrolling gesture as a zoom https://support.google.com/maps/answer/1610636?hl=en&ref_topic=3093390. So I guess my question is how to override that, if possible. Any add-ons that can help?
