When I open image links, such as, clicking an image on a webpage to open it in the same window, the web address on the browser bar up top changes to reflect that the image is open, but the page doesnt change, or if I open the image from a link in a new tab, it open to a blank page, and the only way to actually view the image when this happens is going to tools>page info>media

Chosen solution

In safe mode, everything works fine.

So I decided to not be lazy and do what i should have tried in the first place, and go through my add ons, and see which are causing the problem.

it was one of my ad blocking ad-ons. I use ad-nauseam, and adblocker, so this must have been one of the fabled conflicts that occur between the two when they run together.

Wow, I haven't heard of that before.

By the way, if you hold down the Ctrl key while clicking View Image on the context menu, that will open it in a new tab. Or not, in the current situation.

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userContent.css (custom style rules file), and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)

Thanks for reporting back on that. Weird conflict.

yeah, well, it IS something ad-nauseam warns you about. Probably something to do with the way they work, sort of like how antiviruses used to often conflict with each other when you had more than 1 back in the days of Windows 98 and XP
