They probably said "spam". It's a kind of tinned meat, but unwanted email is called spam, all coming from a sketch on the BBC TV show "Monty Pythons' Flying Circus".

If you don't see a "spam" folder in Thunderbird, then I'd advise you to visit your email provider's website and see if there is a "spam" folder there.

You will probably have a "Junk" folder in Thunderbird. Check that too.
