Thunderbird will not accept my username & p/wd for a new acc.

I have installed Thunderbird on my computer and added a Bigpond email account but when I try to add my gmail account I am told that the username and/or password is incorrect yet I can log into Google mail with that password and username without a problem.

Does the new account dialog tell you that the setting have been found?

Most account setup problems are causes by anti virus products that think they are scanning mail and totally mung the setup, or block Thunderbird because it is not allowed internet access in the firewall.

The firewall issue is usually defined by Thunderbird not being able to look up the gmail or other mail server settings.
