Been using Thunderbird for years with several gmail accounts. Since yesterday, my primary account stopped working due to the following error when attempting to retrieve messages (POP3): Sending of password for user <my_user_name>@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Web login required: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754

Note that: - The password is correct (otherwise I get a different error message). - all my other gmail accounts are working fine - I have changed account setting in Google to allow for less secured apps

Any help/suggestion would be appreciated. thanks!

Usually this means that because you use pop and have allowed less secure apps option, gmail every once in a while will refuse access until you have followed the web login link and logged on to webmail. They are a pain.

Presuming you followed that link: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?visit_id=0-636499919974373821-1639152963&rd=2#cantsignin

Did you then try to use the unlock capcha link located at the above link?

Did you then exit and restart Thunderbird ?
