After changing my gmail password I could not get Thunderbird to recognize my new password. In desperation I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it. I finally was able to get it to accept the new password, but now my email address and associated folders appears twice on the left side of the screen. How can I delete the one of these that does not reflect my current usage?

Chosen solution

Tools|Account Settings

Select the unwanted account.

At the bottom, click on Account Actions. There you will have an option to remove the selected account. If it's greyed out, set another account as the default account first.
