Can't send email. Code 4.7.1. All parameters checked, anti-virus deactivated didn't help

On my father-in-law laptop, suddenly couldn't send his emails anymore. I've checked the potential issues (anti-virus, parameters) and have alsore-installed his account. Still not working. Same error message: code 4.7.1 - Sender address rejected: Access denied. Any outdated programs could do that? Any other reasons? Should I desintalled Thunderbird completely to re-install it? Thanks for your help!

My guess is that the SMTP server is not set to use a password.
