Hi, I try to find out how I can make Firefox detect the language that I am currently using and automatically adapt the spelling check.

Every time I write in another language I have to select the language I am writing in manually to not have everything underlined in red (if the spelling check is not in the corresponding language by chance). I remember I didn't have this problem when I used another browser in the past. Because I would like to continue using Firefox I am trying to solve this problem, but couldn't find a solution so far. Any tips are very welcome. Thanks a lot in advance.

AFAIK I don't think it can do that by itself. They do have firefox version made for each language used. So what languages are you trying to switch to and from?

Hey WestEnd, thank you for your reply. Well, I switch randomly between English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish.

I mean, I don't want to change the language of the whole Browser. Only when I write in any given window or on any random website etc. I use different languages and I switch between them.

Thanks in advance!

WestEnd this is about switching Dictionary language for the spell checker and not the Firefox locale or by UI language change with language packs.

There used to be a "Dictionary Switcher" extension that could have helped with this but it is not compatible with Firefox 57.0 and later. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/dictionary-switcher/

I think that Firefox should remember the dictionary language choice as part of the Site Preferences. This won't work in Private Browsing mode or if you clear the Site Preferences, either manually or via "Clear history when Firefox closes".

@James: Thank you. But as you said, it's not compatible anymore and I can't use it.

@Cor-el: thank you for your suggestion, but I use different languages on the same site, like in my e-mail program or in FB Messenger etc.

You're not the only user who wants Spellchecker to allow multiple language dictionaries at the same time .......

@McCoy, yes...I was already wondering. Guess I'm not the only one in the world that speaks more than one language. ;)
