I'd like to use Qwant as search tool with Thunderbird. I can easily find extension for Google but nothing for less intrusive searcher. Is there any solution ?

I thank you for your answer, your great job and wish you a very nice day.

And I apologize for my poor English (I'm French, you know...).

I've managed to do exactly what you seem to be asking using the following information.

Follow the instructions at this link:

and use this link to get the xml file - right click on page and use 'Save page as' which I renamed as 'qwant.xml' when saving in the 'searchplugins' folder.

Also found in french which may help you:

scroll down to section (it is a long way down): 'Ajouter un moteur de recherche à Open Search.'

Once you start Thunderbird again, you can choose the default search engine here:

  • 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'General'
  • Default Search Engine:
  • Choose Qwant from list.
  • click on 'OK'

This method of adding search engines no longer works in TB 60, but if you've already added them in TB 52, they remain available when TB 60 is installed.

A simpler process is in development:
