How can I find in which the folder I saved a bookmark?

more options

When I open my bookmarks in a new tab, there is the search option, which will find the bookmark I am looking for.

But once I find a bookmark, I also need to know in which folder it was saved, but I can not find a way to do this.

Any help?

Tks.

If the current page is bookmarked and you click the blue star in the address bar, the editing panel will show the bookmark location in the folder list box.

Otherwise, your bookmark is nearly always in the "Other Bookmarks" bucket unless you put it somewhere else.

Hi,

Thank you, your solution was great!

However, I now have a new problem!

It only works for bookmarks saved in the bookmarks tool bar.

It does not work for those saved on folders inside the folders I created.

Isn't that weird?

Tks!

Sorry, I forgot to mention expanding the folder list box using the button to the right of the folder name. (This is an example screenshot from Firefox 59, which was before the large thumbnail image starting appearing at the top of the drop-down.)

You have something(s) buggy (using PC Windows 10).

(1) The little star is not blue for a site I know for sure is previously bookmarked (I have my many bookmarks organized in many folders and subfolders); (2) when I clicked Bookmark this Page, nothing happened (how about giving us a message like "This page is bookmarked already in [folder and subfolder]"? (3) so I went to Show All Bookmarks, searched for this bookmark (easily found) and got info to edit (name, location, tabs, keyword), but not the folder and subfolder where it's located. Please add this, or tell me how to find it easily. Thank you.

The URL might not match exactly. For example, older bookmarks with the http:// protocol may now redirect to https:// which Firefox does not consider an exact match.

If the page is already bookmarked, then clicking the star should drop the editor panel, it shouldn't do nothing. Do you have this problem on a lot of pages, or only ones you suspect are already bookmarked?

Thanks! I've had this problem before. The only time I've noticed, is when I try to bookmark a page and nothing happens; then I search for the URL in existing bookmarks, and find it (it displays on the edit page), but still don't know what folder it's in. Anyway, here's a diagnostic curiosity. I updated Firefox (was one version behind), and on restart, the bookmark in question was gone. I found the site again, was able to bookmark it as normal, and there was the blue star working as advertised. If it recurs, I'll check for a URL exact match (though Bookmark This Page should have let me bookmark the newer URL).

Thank you jsher, if restarting Firefox fixes whatever causes the hiccup, at least there's a work around!

p.s. I think it'd be convenient to add the folder location to the page on which you can edit the name, location etc. fields of a bookmark.

In the Library window? Yes, we would all like that. It is on the very long "to do" list in the bug tracking system.
