I appreciate that you may have done this already, but please can you restart Firefox which should resolve this issue.

I have done that and I have restarted my computer. Right now it seems fixed, but it actually has been bothering me intermittently for the last month's time - suddenly it just starts reving up and I can tell from the Task Manager that it's Firefox doing it
