Save Passwords in Firefox for iOS -- Not Working!

I followed instructions in the article recommended for this topic, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manage-saved-passwords-firefox-ios, to verify that "Save Passwords" and "Show in Application Menu," whatever the latter means, are already checked.

Nevertheless, Firefox does NOT ask me whether to save the password for a new site login, nor do these passwords appear to be listed in Firefox.

What am I doing wrong? Running Firefox 106.0 under iOS 15.7.1 (from app store) on iPhone 13 Pro. Please help! -- jclarkw

Admittedly I haven't tried the iOS section before, but I had no trouble getting helpful solutions on the Android section.

I've found one other related post, but that's from 7 years ago and never received any solution either.

Is the save-passwords feature that works on every other branch of Firefox that I've ever used simply not implemented for iOS (in spite of the instruction mentioned in my first post? Do I have to revert to Chrome?

The feature works for me in Firefox for iOS. Please see the screen shot below. Please confirm you don't see the strip at the bottom offering to save the login when creating a new account.

If not, would you mind creating a (free) account on www.griffithreview.com/my-account/ to see if the problem is with the website/s or with your installation of Firefox for iOS?

Looking forward to your response.

Dear Damon -- Thanks for your reply, but I don't understand what I'm seeing in your attachment. 1) It looks like two separate "images," with the upper more narrow in width but taller than the lower, but it downloads as a single image. 2) There appear to be three password blocks in the upper "image." The first appears alone and separate from the second. Only the second mentions a user name. I suppose the lower is the user name and password for the site. What is the upper password? 3) The lower "image" is what I would expect as a save/not save login option, but I think you are saying that I should NOT see that. Correct?

On my phone I have the following sequence: 1) Having confirmed that "Save Passwords" is turned on in Settings as described above. I log into a new Web site (say, WSJ.com) with my username and password as normal. Then I see nothing except a successful login to the WSJ pages -- no opportunity to save login or not. (Needless to say, this works as expected on Firefox for PC.) 2) If I then go to Settings/Privacy/Passwords, Firefox asks me to "Enter iPhone passcode for 'Firefox.'" I'm not sure exactly what this means, but if I enter my iPhone login password, I get to the password screen with the two switches that I mentioned above at the top. There is also a greyed out "No logins found" in the middle of the page. 3) So I ask again, what am I doing wrong. -- jclarkw

The screengrab was just to show you what you should be looking for. Let's make this simpler:

  1. Go to www.griffithreview.com/my-account
  2. No need to create an account, just attempt to login with the fake account example@example.com and a fake password. It doesn't matter that the website won't log you in.

After you tap the Log In button, at the bottom of your iPhone screen do you see:

Save login example@example.com for www.griffithreview.com

with options to tap Don't Save and Save Login, as shown in the next screengrab?

I'm asking you to do this to see if the problem is due to the website/s being logged-in. I know from experience that some website login pages don't play nicely with the Save Login feature. I'm unable to help you with wsj.com as I don't have a wsj.com account and it doesn't seem they offer an option to create a free one.

Sorry, Damon -- I can't even get to your site from Firefox on my phone (although it works fine from Firefox on my Windows 10 computer). The loading bar begins, then stops about 1/8th of the way across and won't move. I tried twice, waiting several minutes each, and then gave up. (This is the only site I've tried so far that I can't reach.)

If you'll just read the details in my last message, perhaps you'll see what ignorant mistake I'm making without first troubleshooting my access to your site, which seems irrelevant to my problem... -- jclarkw

Damon - hanks for your attempt to help. I'm giving up on Firefox for iOS for not and switching to Chrome (which saves logins just fine). Anyhow I'm traveling for a week and unavailable to experiment further for now. -- jclarkw
