My address book has several sender addresses. One has crept in that I did not enter and do not recognise. It self selects whenever I send a mail from the address book, luckily Thunderbird does not send so I do pick it up. How do I delete the address, I can find no way of doing this.

Are you saying: A contact in one of your address books which you did NOT select gets auto inserted into 'TO' field when you select a contact in the address book and click on 'Write'. If yes: In Address Book Select the erroneous contact. You will see details in lower section or on the right side depending upon whether you use the 'horizontal' or 'vertical' view. You will now see an 'Edit' button - click on it. Then you will see a 'Delete' button.

Thanks for the reply but it does not solve the problem. The address is supposedly my sending address for any reply. As I said it just appeared from nowhere in my legitimate address list. It is not a contact address.

Hello

you say that your address book has several sender addresses; however the Thunderbird address book is not for storing *sender* addresses, it's for addresses to whom you are sending *to*. When you are sending by using the 'Write' function from the address book, the 'From' address is not coming from the address book, it is coming from the accounts you defined. When you go to account settings, normally one of them is underscored. It's the default sending account. Use the Account actions button to set the account you prefer to use.

Thanks for the reply. I made a mistake in saying it was in the address book. If you mark an address for 'write', the blank message opens and the sender address box appears. If you have more than one address they are shown. I went slowly through this action and can see that the item (nsIMsgindentity,Id1) appears. I then noticed that it is the prefix for another address. It shows at the top of the list and when opening in write it is shown in the new message address bar. Unfortunately it cannot be moved or erased but I have found with right click held on it and moved to an address it will pick it up and enter in the a sender box of the email. This only appeared a while back and has been very inconvenient but knowing what it is I shall just ignore it.
