I am unable to send messages from Thunderbird This is the error message I receive

Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Unable to establish a secure link with Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.telstra.com using STARTTLS since it doesn't advertise that feature. Switch off STARTTLS for that server or contact your service provider.

I am not tech savvy so dont know what to do to fix it

The telstra site indicates the SMTP server should be 465 and SSLTLS or 587 and STARTTLS . You can check this by rightclick account name, click 'settings', then scroll down to 'Outgoing Server SMTP' and click 'edit' for your server. From there you can change as needed.

According to mxtoolbox.com, the telstra smtp doesn't support TLS. Try port 465 with SSL/TLS instead.
