quick filter on two fields, e.g. "sender" and "subject", using different search terms for each field

Using Quick Filiter, I am trying to find a way to filter on two different fields at the same time, using different search terms for each field. For example, I would like to filter the messages in a folder so that I see only messages from "Jack" with subject contains the word "Thunderbird". I have not been able to find a way to do that using the Quick Filter bar. Is there a way to do this using Quick Filter?

I know I can click Edit > Find > Search Messages and specify multiple criteria in the Search Messages dialog, then click Search, select a found message, and click Open in Folder. But the Search Messages window does not have a Preview Pane, and I'd rather filter the messages in the message list, scroll through the found messages, seeing the preview for each messages as I do.
