Controlling the use of scroll position when going back/forward in history

When going back in history (back button or Alt-backarrow), I sometimes get to the previous scroll position, other times not - even on the same site - and this behaviour changes from time to time for no apparent reason.

I would like to control this, e.g. the settings could have an option to explicitly turn on or off (yes, off, too) the browser's storage and/or usage of the scroll position.

How can I manage the scroll position behaviour?

Hello Eddi.

Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at getfirefox.com.

As for your issue, hopefully this support article is what you need:

For future reference, always search the knowledge base prior to asking a question. After all, the search bar is right there, huge, in your face, and the "ask a question" button is tiny and hard to find.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the new version.

I had already seen the article and it didn't solve my problem. Thanks anyway.

I'll do so, sorry about that. I didn't mean to be offensive.

If that article didn't help you, I really can't help you any further. I hope the up to date version fixes your problems.

I've installed Firefox 3.5 and will upgrade to 3.6. The browser seems to be quicker now, and the use of scroll position seems to be more consistent. I would still like an option to turn it off completely, so I'll be watching for updates and add-ons. Thank you for helping.

(I edited the part not related to the question.)
