after closing tabs & quiting firefox the old tabs reopen when I open firefox

I have tabs that I cannot get rid of. I close them and quit firefox and they return when I reopen firefox. How do I get rid of them?" I'm using a mac desktop 10.4.1 and firefox 3.6.13.

This can be a problem with the file sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
