Sorry, resetting the SyncKey wipes all your data on the Sync server.

I hope you were looking in a mirror when you said that. If you didn't backup the Sync Key as was suggested when you initially setup Sync, or you got rid of the old PC before setting up Sync on the new PC, or you foolishly didn't read the message that your Sync account will be reset when getting a new Sync key, or you attempted to use Sync as a backup service (which it isn't intended to be) - you might be the moron. But of course, it is easier to blame some one else for your mistakes than it is to own up to them your self.
