Chosen solution

I'm going to assume you are in the US (which isn't a fair assumption) but in case that's true, try this: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.6.16&os=win&lang=en-US

That's a direct link that should immediately start the 3.6 download.

If you are not in the US, go here & Right-Click on correct country, copy the link location for the download & paste it in your address bar to see if that starts the download automatically:

Thank you. However, when I try to download 3.6 it goes right to 4.0. Guess i better get use to it or go to IE. Which I would rather not do.

Ok. They want to know if problem is solved. Why don't they put a box for not solved?

Thank you iowaman. I happen to be in Dsm, IA. Now I'm hoping I can get to my Article summaries so I can print them for class tomorrow at DMACC. Have/had ten of them ready to go. Got hung up in this 4.0 fiasco and could not find them. Hope I can now or there goes a big chunk of my sociology grade. Anyway, thank you. I hope they will allow this version of FF to stay around awhile. 4.0, well I won't go there for now.

Neither download worked for me. Goes right back to version 4. Very frustrating.

I'm 53 years old and should have known better to wait til the last minute to print out an assignment for school. I supposedly upgraded to 4.0 yesterday afternoon. Upgrading FF is always so simple for even a dim-wit like myself. Little did I know, predict, guess or whatever, what I was putting myself into. I somehow misplaced files, not just school files, but a few others, and even going back to 3.6.16, cannot find them. I cannot blame FF for these problems. Like I typed I'm a bit slow when it comes to computers. Guess I did not realize how slow. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Firefox 4.0 very unresponsive, can't go back to 3.6 either, defaults to 4.0. Why is it every time these tech heads get something really good they have to go ahead and ruin it? LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE MOZILLA! You had a good product now its ruined!

You got that right margu. I tried, and it worked iowaman's recommendation. I would post a link, or whatever one calls it, but it would be better and more accurate for you if you can see a few of the replies before mine. Otherwise look up iowaman.

Thanks cor-el for the link (top of page). It has versions for Mac, Windows and Linux. I down graded to 3.6.16, but some of my extension still don't work. Can't remember which one I had before upgrading to Firefox 4. I downloaded Chrome and was shocked to see it looks like Firefox 4. I hated it and uninstalled it. Firefox, stop trying to be like them! You ruined a good thing.

In order for it to not start 4.0 after re-installing 3.6, go into your Control Panel and fully uninstall Firefox. Then reinstall 3.6 and you should be fine.

I had read that Firefox 4 saves information in a different manner than any earlier version of Firefox and that data would be guaranteed to be lost. I would like to know what those things are so that I can at least make a record of what I recall was important about my computer. I, too, was very satisfied with everything about 3.6.16 but it was during a difficult, many-hours support session done by Adobe that my computer was moved to version 4 (remote session) and I was told that I could always change it back to what I had. It was well past the release of 4 and I had been purposely hesitant (as never previously-I had always jumped right in for new versions) but at the end of this support session, my computer did not function at all! It has taken a very long time-I am into the re-build process about a week now. It sickens me when I think of the mess that is now my computer which had been customized so completely that I barely needed to be aware of keys because everything was set up in a very helpful way and automated so that I barely needed to think about the fact that a computer is involved. This truly is awful and to be even worse, it looks so elementary school! Firefox 4 was so long in coming-what ever happened that no one spoke up to mention that this is not what Firefox is all about. Firefox is about being ahead-not behind and that is how I view this version. To boot-I have no audio and am signed up for 2 different courses taught online and I cannot hear anything! Imagine that. Not much use of my computer and can't hear my teachers.

Thanks for this detailed information. I did this, and it worked perfectly. I am now happily back using Firefox 3.6.16!
