I have a new PC and new operating system. Have just downloaded Foxfire and cannot find my bookmarks. How do you reclaim them?

I have a new PC. I have just gotten Win 7 too. I just downloaded Foxfire and have no idea how to find my bookmarks or how to import them if they are even here. I did have all files from my old PC copied over but do not know if they moved too. Any idea how to find them?

You need to copy a file called places.sqlite from your old profile folder to your current profile folder. (Firefox stores user data in the profile folder)

For details of how to find the profile folder see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox and https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

If you want you can copy more than just the bookmarks, for details see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile

I will see if I can do a search and find the file. I am struggling to even find "search" on Win 7! And now I need to find where the "old" bar across the top of Foxfire is hidden. I want the icons back so I can see the Bookmarks, etc and click them. I get so frustrated with upgrades!! Thanks for the suggestion and I will see if I can do this. I will post when I try.

You will need to set Windows 7 to search for hidden files, for details on how to do that see http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial151.html

Thanks TonyE. I have read it and think I can follow the instructions. I will see how it works.

I went to the control panel and it is different than the instructions stated but it was actually easier to find. The button was already clicked to show all hidden files. Then I copied and pasted the one you gave me in the first reply and it shows nothing.

Tony, I have found the file by following the Windows directions but when I get to it, there does not seem to be a way to download it into Foxfire. It asks what program to download to but Foxfire does not show up on the programs files. I asked it to search the web and that did not work. You are very kind to help me with this.

Do not try to open the file, you need to copy the file and place it in your current profile folder.

OK. I have copied the file. But I see no place to paste it on the Troubleshooting page where I found it. It says paste into my profile page but I am going in circles trying to find that! I feel like I am walking blind.
