"Important update" (v6?) won't install
"Important update" (v6?) won't install, returns error "failed to install". Now when attempting to open Firefox, Zone Alarm returns error "unstable" and Ff won't open. Have had to resort to IE to get online. brucecraig777@yahoo.com

Please try to uninstall firefox and install firefox again.

That can happen if the updater wasn't able to update (replace) all the files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version. Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Message from user: Even though installed, Ff does not show up in "installed" programs. Interesting. Therefore, not uninstalled. However, as the desktop icon has "properties" I did the "Troubleshoot Compatibility" process and W7 "set" it to run in WinXP-SP2 mode and it now works. Even so, it is still far slower than GooChrome as Ff intermittently "hangs" when loading pages and especially when sending email. Problem cured? Kinda sorta, but it is clear something ain't right with v6. For the time being, I'm going to continue using GC unless and until a proper fix for Ff comes along.
